Flatpack Paradise
Flat Pack Paradise is an exploration into creating a sense of a bold vibrant paradise. With a strong influence on Moorish architecture I created a portable utopian like experience with the use of lightweight and accessible materials (cardboard) that can be set up in any indoor environment.
It is composed of a large 3D architectural collage based on the Muralla Roja by Spanish architect, Ricardo Bofill. In addition to this, I produced a collection of tiles and pop up tiles that can be placed in whatever arrangement the user decides. The pattern depicts the abundance of nature, diversity, journeys and the interconnections of vegetation and life.
It has a practicality to it which makes it more than just an art piece. It is temporary in its nature and impermanent in its material. I wanted to encourage play by bringing the exterior into an interior setting. Investigating the relationship between architecture and nature as well as how the viewer and components interact with each other.
